Birth Story

I woke up to my alarm at 3:30am. I jumped in the shower and changed into some comfy clothes. We doubled checked the hospital bag 30 times to make sure we had everything we needed and finally headed out the door. When we got to the hospital I was admitted and told that we got our own private room! We really lucked out. When they were done with the paper work they brought us up to the room and put in my IV’s. I got two of them, one in both hands. This is when I started feeling very nervous and overwhelmed. Hospitals always make me nervous. Thankfully though I started to feel better and just kept telling myself I will have a cute baby soon. The catheter was by far the worst part. It was extremely uncomfortable, but after about an hour the feeling goes away and you don’t even notice its in. If anything I was super thankful for it, I couldn’t imagine having to get out of bed to pee after the surgery. We waited in the room for an hour and around quarter to 8 they came in to take us down to the operating room. Patrick wasn’t allowed in when they gave me the spinal tap, so he had to wait outside. The anesthesiologist was amazing! I couldn’t thank him enough for everything he did. He was the reason I actually enjoyed my c-section. I was super nervous about the Spinal Tap but when he stuck it in I barely felt a thing, it was nothing to be worried about at all. That’s when he told me to lay back and they put a sheet over so I couldn’t see my belly. At this point I couldn’t feel anything from my arms down. They let Patrick come in and he sat right beside me and held my hand the whole time. There was pressure and pulling but it wasn’t painful at all. I felt the moment she left my body and than there was her little cry. It was the most amazing sound I had ever heard. I just remember them telling us “It’s a girl, its little Esther!” I got to see them bring her over and wipe her down, than they brought her over to me so I could kiss her. Patrick left with her to go get her cleaned up and all her vitals checked. They kept me in the Operating Room finishing the surgery for another half and hour. When it was all over I got brought to a recovery room and had my vitals checked and got given morphine. The feeling in my legs were starting to come back but I wasn’t in pain. The morphine made my face really itchy and I ended up having to take benadrill shots the whole time they had me on it. I stayed in the recovery room for another half an hour and the whole time I stared at the clock and just kept telling the nurses how I have a beautiful daughter. Finally they said I was free to go back to my room. When they got me up there Patrick was holding her and passed her off to me and I could never forget the way she looked up at me like we knew each other for years. We stayed in the hospital for 2 nights and I have no complaints about it. Everyone was very helpful. The second day was the worst for pain. I couldn’t move without crying and it felt like I was ripping my staples out. Coughing and sneezing are the worst! I am finally feeling better and can walk around comfortably (It’s the 5th day.) All in all it was a wonderful experience and I got the most precious daughter in the world out of it. If you have any questions or would like to know anything else just ask!
